Message of the day - October 31, 1998:

Hi everyone,

Happy Halloween! In case you have not noticed, I have been posting nothing but "pumpkins" for the entire month of October, and am finishing them off with five more, courtesy of contributor Mark R. Lynn. Maybe I should have waited a day to post them, as three of the five shots were taken two years ago tomorrow - November 1, 1996. Too bad Mark didn't get them the day before, so they would be "Haloween Pumpkins."

Of course, I had to go try to get my pumpkin on film today, and the sky was not at all cooperative. It was mostly cloudy in Ft. Worth today, but the sun would poke through the clouds every few minutes, and would usually last less than 30 seconds. On the way out, I told my dad (who was driving and shooting too) that we would probably see sun for everything but the one pumpkin that goes by. It was just about the truth. We caught several trains, and for all but a couple, the sun came out mostly due to patience, and in the case of moving targets, due to pure luck. No such luck for the one pumpkin that did go by. It was C44-9W #9850, and we chased it enough to get shots of both sides in what would have been good light, but the skys would not permit it. I tested the limits of Kodachrome 25, and hopefully the results will still be worthy of posting. We'll see. At least I did see one "Haloween Pumpkin!"

Enjoy!
