Message of the day - October 30, 2001:

Hi everyone,

So far reducing to five images has not really helped when it comes to more frequent updates, but if I had to do 10, this would not have been ready tonight so there is still some merit to the idea.

Theme of the day is BN pumpkins, or as close as we can get without digging up some Great Northern units with BN numbers. Halloween is of course the 31st, and while the orange and green "pumpkin" sounds more like a BNSF (or GN) paint sheme, let's not forget the BN tiger stripes! Three of these five shots from Kirk Orndorff feature GP50's in this experimental paint scheme designed to enhance visibility and reduce grade crossing accidents.

The last two shots from Kirk of GP50 #3144 and GP50 #3149 may be especially interesting to some since they feature "street running" in Ft. Collins, CO. I have to admit I'm more of a whiteface fan, but the shot of a lone GP50 on an intermodal and the GP50 - B30-7A - Fuel Tender lashup are some choice views of typical BN in the late 1980's, even if the street running is not so typical.

Enjoy,
Charles
