Message of the day - August 9, 2005:

Hi everyone,

Today will be the first of many days of photos by Mark R. Lynn. I do not recall the exact total, but I think it is close to 60, and nearly all modern BN into the BNSF era.

I prefer to use my own photos to point out some tips on how to improve your photography, but I can't help but use this pair of photos of GP28M #1515 taken just days apart on September 6th and 28th of 2000. The locomotive itself is posed in nearly identical positions, and the light angle is also about the same. What improved with the second photo is the distractions in the background. Such aesthetic elements really do not matter that much when it comes to using the photo as a historical reference, but for those who appreciate what little "art" there is to roster shooting, such details in composition do make a difference.

Enjoy,
Charles
