It's April 12th again, and that means Party Favors!

Once again, it's time for some party favors, get them while they're hot!

Photo of the Year 2013-2014:

Party Favors 2014 - Volume 1 of 1

The past year was another memorable one. The big trip was to attend a relative's 100th birthday in Irrigon, Oregon. Dad was up for driving and enjoying the scenery. Mom and Maria chose to fly in to Pasco. Each trip to the Pasco airport, both to pick up and to drop off resulted in one featured photo. The trip did provide an opportunity to photograph the Columbia River Gorge, and as hoped, the "Photo of the Year" was a result of this effort. The list of family members to thank this year would be quite long, as quite a few attended!

Just looking at the thumbnails, this photo easily stands out among all the rest. I am also pleased that the lead unit is a relatively rare repaint of an older unit into the current BNSF scheme. I'd prefer all motive power units to be BNSF, but the point is more the scenery than the train. One other reason this photo stands out is that it is not my usual style. I prefer to be closer to the train, but I do appreciate views from way up high, and views like this are few and far between. The top 2008 and 2010 photos do stand out in a similar manner.

I may still prefer Glacier Park to the Columbia River Gorge, but a little variety is nice. I suspect I will make more road trips to Vancouver, BC and may hit one location on the way there, and the other on the way back. In the end, both are great spots so it may come down to which offers better weather when the time comes.

As usual, there is plenty of the usual Texas action as well. One nice surprise was a new spot I found in Oklahoma City, where I pulled a hat trick with three trains in one stop!
