Robert R. Harmen |
Robert was born and raised in Pueblo, CO where he began shooting slides
in early 1970. His first slides of a C&S train (BN)! Robert has sort
of grown photographically with the BN. He shot movies begining in 1962
but wishes they had been slides instead! Started slides then added b&w
negs on a about one for one ratio. Although Robert started with the C&S,
his first love is the MoPac with C&S and Rio Grande tying for second.
Early in the BN years he got hooked, hopelessly, on unit coal trains.
More on this later. In the mean time he got married (1976) and over time
added three kids with varying degrees of interest in trains. Robert
has published at least twelve articles in Railfan, Trains, CTC Board,
Short Line, and probably something else. He has had probably 1000 photos
published. Never kept a complete record but several books are included
as well as the above magazines, and several more. A number of his photos
were used in calendars including UP, the MPHS, McMillans, and Camerail
Club. In 1987 Robert started a mid life job change, moved to Omaha and went to Dental School getting his D.D.S. in May of 1991. Spent some time in Craig, CO, and Sallisaw, OK before returning to his home area. Robert currently lives in Colorado Springs, CO. Robert has belonged off and on to several historical socities including FOBNR, MPHS, Camerail Club, KCSHS, and ARCHES. In the 90s, Robert's photo interests changed dramatically and he sold off a large part of his photo collection. Gone are the black and whites and the roster slides. Just lost his interest coupled with the generally more difficult access. Also finding it less exciting to travel. A factor of age too. |
