Message of the day - November 14, 2002:

Hi everyone,

Here is one last SD40-2 and four C30-7's from Curt Jans. Coincidentally, all five photos were taken in Nebraska. No big surprise since C30-7's were coal units until the SD70MAC came along, and Nebraska is definitely coal country. It is interesting to note that BN used to use big new GE's almost exclusively for coal, and big new EMD's for everything else and now it is the big new EMD's being used almost exclusively for coal and the big new GE's used for everything else.

It has been a while since I've posted any C30-7's so I have not kept that roster section up to date very well. Many of these units are off the BN/BNSF roster now. I happened to have information from e-mail lists that provided some info regarding dispositions, but I should check that against Del Grosso's last few books, as I am sure his research on such matters is much more thorough than mine.

Enjoy,
Charles
