Message of the day - September 29, 2004:

Hi everyone,

Today we explore what I will call varying degrees of success. The early "pre-1972" paint featured by GP35 #3368, GP35 #3403 and GP38 #3524 helps illustrate the longevity of these units, as all three units continue to work away on the BNSF. Even the paint jobs on these might be considered a success, not showing too much wear after what must have been 10 years considering these photos are from 1981. Then there is B39-8 #7402. The life of this unit on the Santa Fe was shorter than the life of the above paint jobs, but I will say that the technology advances demonstrated by this unit must have been a success given the near equal orders of GE Dash 8 products versus EMD at the time, leading to futher success of the GE Dash 9 line on Santa Fe and the BNSF. Perhaps I don't need three photos of the same side of 7402, but the last photo does show that it managed to score a Gulf War inspired American flag decal before its retirement in November 1992.

Enjoy!
Charles
